Yes, you should be watching your bad or LDL cholesterol for high cholesterol levels. You should go and get your cholesterol level tested if you have not already done so. Of course, you also want to manage your good HDL cholesterol levels.
Managing your cholesterol is a combination of keeping your bad cholesterol low and keeping your good cholesterol high. It is very important to do both. You should not be on a low fat diet, that is a misconception. You should not consume bad fats such as saturated or trans fats, but you should consume good fats, such as olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds and flax oil.
If you know you have a problem with high bad LDL cholesterol you should also be exercising on a regular basis and eating healthy food such as steel cut oats.

Unfortunately, food manufacturers use partially hydrogenated in many products. If you are not paying attention, you are probably eating a high amount of these dangerous oils. Partially hydrogenated oils lead to plaque build up in your arteries. They contribute to obesity in children and adults. Search your cupboards and remove all partially hydrogenated oils from your home.
Partially hydrogenated are used at many restaurants and fast food restaurants. Ask whether your meal contains them and let the restaurant know that you will not be coming back until they stop using them. There are so many restaurants using hydrogenated oils it will be difficult for you to find one that does not use them.

It is time to clean out your cupboards and throw away everything that has High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS. The corn industry has been running a huge campaign to convince Americans that HFCS is not harmful. That is a lie. They say that it is almost the same as sugar. I think they are talking about the taste only. High Fructose Corn Syrup is not just like sugar. HFCS is processed differently in your body. It bypasses the normal body functions of going through the liver and the pancreas and goes directly to the bloodstream. This fact makes it highly dangerous. It is one of the key contributors to childhood obesity, childhood type 2 diabetes, adult obesity and adult type 2 diabetes. Throw out everything in your refrigerator, freezer and pantry that has HFCS in it.

Lowering your bad LDL Cholesterol can save your life.
EXERCISE - Daily exercise is crucial, even in small amounts. Start by walking 10 minutes per day. Gradually increase your time until you are walking 60 minutes per day. Add weight training three times a week. Start with 5 lb. dumbells, slowly increasing the number of exercises you do each day. Over time you can increase the weight of the dumbells.
EAT HEALTHY - Load up on fruits and vegetables. Keep fruit and vegetables handy so that you are encouraged to eat them. Start eating steel cut oats. Whole oats can lower your LDL bad cholesterol, keep your arteries clean and help you lose weight by making you feel full longer.
CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE - Out with the bad, in with the good. Have a positive mental outlook. Fill your life with good, healthy relationships. Rid yourself of any bad habits, such as smoking.
RAISE GOOD HDL CHOLESTEROL - Good diet, exercise and positive mental attitude can help, but the best way to raise your good cholesterol is to eat fish, olive oil, almonds and avocados weekly and in small portions.
